Elvis Presley Sings Italian Favorites

Elvis Presley originally heard a recording of ‘O Sole Mio’ while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army.  When he was discharged, he requested that new lyrics be written especially for him.  This  musical task was undertaken by the songwriting duo of Aaron Schroeder and Wally Gold.  The rewritten version was titled ‘It’s Now or Never’ and was a worldwide hit for Presley.

‘Torna a Surriento’ is a Neapolitan song composed in 1902 by Ernesto De Curtis to words written by his brother, Giambattista.  Claude Aveling wrote the English lyrics, which are titled “Come Back to Sorrento.” Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman re-arranged it and wrote a new set of lyrics for Elvis Presley entitled ‘Surrender’.
