Terredora

I recently had my first taste of Terredora wines with a bottle of 2010 Aglianico DOC that my mother brought home from Campania.  Laden with dark fruit and earth, I found myself enchanted by a young wine that easily could have aged years and years more, but still exhibited the personality and vigor of a highly developed powerhouse.  With rich and robust flavors, it’s no surprise that Campania has seen a recent boom in quality and fame.

Terredora wines was created by Walter Mastroberadino (of the same family of Taurasi fame) in 1994.  Walter left the family business to embark on his own journey, setting up multiple vineyards sites in Iripina, most notably the site of Terredora.  More famous for its production of whites of Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo, Taurasi and it’s fundamental grape Aglianico are delicious examples of why and how the wine scene of Campania has seen so much attention and growth in the past few decades.  Still a family affair, Walter’s children Paulo, Lucio, and Daniela are heavily involved in the wine business, with Walter remaining the head of operations.  A family led by a true entrepreneur, this branch of Mastroberadino produces gorgeous wine with more than friendly prices.  Now all you need to do is find them.
